Photo Friday - Structure

Long afternoon shadows in Antigua Guatemala. I shot this last year, September 2012, with my little old Canon Rebel EOS and its original 18-55 lens that I purchased in 2004. I chose it rather than my Canon 40D because it is small, relatively speaking. Lugging my other camera around is like taking care of a newborn baby.

Little did I know at the time, this would be the last hurrah for that camera, as it was stolen one month later in October 2012 from my apartment on Caye Caulker, Belize. I was in the U.S. visiting my family and the apartment was burglarized by my ex husband's son who had gone back on crack cocaine. Mind you, my ex husband lives next door, when we got divorced he had to chop the house in pieces in payment to me for my investment in the property. Mine being the smaller piece, but nonetheless, mine. My ex stepson was caught a couple of weeks later and pled guilty and went right back to Hattieville prison where he had been released a few months earlier. By the time they (the village council worker and chairman, and not the police) caught him, he had sold or used everything he had stolen. I don't take it personally, when he's not using he a really nice person. And when he's in prison it seems like he's able to manage his addiction, because he comes out on parole, fat. If he can stay off Caye Caulker he has a chance, but within weeks after arriving I notice him losing weight and having that stringy wrung out furtive look, and I know its only a matter of time... before things start missing again.

Photo Friday - Seashore

On Caye Caulker, kids are kids. You will see them playing marbles on the sandy streets, kicking balls, and if they don't have a ball, kicking a plastic bottle, riding bikes, playing like kids used to play before the internet and x-box.

Photo Friday - Primary Color - Blue

Blue, Azul, Blauw, Turqoise, Bleu, Cyan, Sapphire, Lapis, the name changes, but the feeling is still the same.

Cool water, floating, sun hot pouring down, skin tight, relaxed, happiness, licking my salty lime lips, eating pulpo ceviche tipping the bowl up to drink the juice.

Micheladas con Sol, salsa music, Cuban singers, dreadlock trombone player, brown skinned buff bodies, shake shake shake.

Cougars Gone Wild, the over 50 edition.

Shot last weekend in Cozumel Mexico, this was the only day we went where Mexican tourists go, Playa Azul Beach Club. The rest of the trip was spent back-a-bush and back-a-town riding motorcycles and eating fish tacos.

Photo Friday - Turbulance

Is it a shark, or is it a manatee? Well almost. A curious snorkeler swims past the sunset shoot of Tina and Henry on their wedding day. All you can see is head and butt bobbing in the water. Click here for more Photo Friday submissions.

Photo Friday Self Portrait 2011 challenge

So shocked I was when I took these photos off the camera. The lighting was perfect, the setting real and in paradise. I had put my makeup on with a paint roller and hadn't sweat it off yet, the breeze hadn't turned me into hurricane hair girl, and the results were surprising...

Way too serious looking, but seriously... the former CEO in me, deep thought from still water, or maybe its because I just bumped my broken toe again, but SOMETHING is bothering me, maybe its the scorpion crawling up my leg.

Again with the goofy look

And now for the real me...

Eyes closed, mouth open
just expressing my opinion about the situation
just lettin you know for real what's goin on
FOR.REAL.

Photo Friday - Warm

I knew if I looked hard enough, I would catch someone being naughty. And I did. They were a huddle of little ole Muslem ladies over to the side passing a ciggy amongst them. It was WARM that day (more than 90) and the poor ole gals had to stay covered up in their hajib, head covering and long polyester long sleeved gowns. I personally was sweating like a pig in my tank top, cargo shorts and flip flops at the Arab festival in Dearborn. An interesting event to people watch. Every type, shape, size, and ethnicity from men and women in traditional garb, to more modern interpretations of the Koran to out and out carival ho's. (Ya know every carnival hasta have its ho's).

Is it is safe to say that "Only in America" can you see an old Muslem women smoking a ciggy in public?

Photo Friday - Children

Boys and Birds on the Beach, Caye Caulker, Belize

I don't actively shoot. I don't walk around with my camera looking for things to photograph. Most of my shots happen when I am supposed to be doing something else, like looking at the bride and groom riding their bikes down the beach, jumping off a pier or walking towards me.
For me, my pictures just happen, they aren't planned or sought after.

Photo Friday - Nightlife

Let's Dance!
A late night rainy night wedding reception at Habaneros on Caye Caulker. The guests made an impromptu dance floor from one side of the verandah. Life is an experiment, and this was shot in night portrait mode, (whatever that means) on my new Canon 40D. Fortunately, I did not catch anyone's panties (in case you are wondering) as I stood outside the verandah rail and shot from the floor up.

"Let's Dance" by David Bowie
Let's dance put on your red shoes and dance the blues
Let's dance to the song
they're playin' on the radio
Let's sway
while color lights up your face
Let's sway
sway through the crowd to an empty space
If you say run, I'll run with you
If you say hide, we'll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower
Let's dance for fear
your grace should fall
Let's dance for fear tonight is all
Let's sway you could look into my eyes
Let's sway under the moonlight,
this serious moonlight
If you say run, I'll run with you
If you say hide, we'll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower
Let's dance put on your red shoes
and dance the blues
Let's dance to the song
they're playin' on the radio
Let's sway you could look into my eyes
Let's sway under the moonlight,
this serious moonlight

Photo Friday - December 15 - Sunrise

I shot this photo standing on the verandah that then became my office and now is a posh spare bedroom. I shot this before the Fisheries Department built their office dead smack next to the fence, in the police yard, blocking my view to the main water taxi bridge. To see the boats come and go from the main bridge, I now have to stand at the kitchen window on my tiptoes. The building of the Fisheries office didn't affect the rest of the house, just the view from our side.

Even on Caye Caulker, the view changes from time to time.

I like this photo because it has a natural lens flare. A for real lens flare, not something manufactured in photoshop.
In photos where there is an absence of color, for example, in this silouette shot into the sun, I convert them to black and white because it makes the photo more contrasty.
Contrasty is a very official technical term, in case you didn't know. Its listed in the dictionary right next to the whoseywhatsit and the thingamajiggy.
